MakerSpace Session 01 | Joining the Narratives of Storytelling and Tinkering

In a world where innovation thrives on the amalgamation of imagination and exploration, storytelling and Tinkering emerge as two possible collaborators for inducing creativity. The symbiotic relationship between storytelling, the art of crafting narratives, and tinkering, the hands-on minds-on exploration of materials and ideas, seems to positively impact human expression and innovation.

Storytelling serves as a vessel for transmitting culture, sharing knowledge, and fostering empathy. It invites learners to embark on transformative journeys, sparking curiosity and igniting creativity. Complementing that journey with the spirit of tinkering, an innate human impulse to dissect, manipulate, and reassemble the world around us, allows learners to optimize a playful exploration of possibilities, challenging conventional boundaries and unlocking new realms of learning and innovation. Educators harness the power of storytelling to engage students and foster critical thinking, while hands-on tinkering experiences cultivate a culture of problem-solving.

In this session, we will put forward what we are developing as story writers with a tinkering spirit. We put forward different examples of interventions that we have been trying to embrace the synergy between narrative imagination and hands-on experimentation. The stories come from different cultural contexts and draw the learners into different learning directions. We will discuss the learning possibilities in each case. Participants will hear about our experience and participate in hands-on tinkering activities designed for the stories presented.
