On Saturday 5 September 2015, the second edition of EMME Summer School was launched at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), welcoming about 20 eminent speakers in the field of informal science education and communication, and 17 professional participants from the North Africa and Middle East region, preparing to become future Science Center Leaders.

The Opening Ceremony began with welcoming notes from Mr. Ayman El Sayed, Deputy Director of the Planetarium Science Center, followed by Ms. Hoda Elmikaty, Head of the Cultural Outreach Sector. The following Speaker, Mr. Reinhold Brender, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, stressed on the importance of collaborations between the Mediterranean-basin countries.

Introduction to the EMME Summer School was presented by the two Promoting Networks, illustrating the project’s philosophy, by Ms. Sawsan Dalaq, President of NAMES, and Director of the Children’s Museum Jordan, followed by Ms. Rosalia Vargas, Past-President of Ecsite, and President of Pavilhao do Conhecimento – Ciencia Viva. Mr. Yoslan Nur, Programme Specialist, UNESCO then delivered the Technical Partner's speech; his attendance also highlighted the importance of science communication as an educational catalyst in both developed and developing countries.

The generous support of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS), as well as the Science and Technology Development Fund, was highly recognized in the opening speeches.

EMME 2015 is aspired to drive development of new science communication endeavors in the region. This multicultural effort, motivated by a passion for science communication without borders, was the basis for EMME held at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Egypt, from 5 to 10 September 2015.
