Adding value through people-centred activities

The permanent array of interactive displays in a science centre, should be regarded as foundation on which to build a series of people-centred activities that add value to the permanent displays. We have found in the Bahrain Science Centre that PCAs add the following values: they allow us to address topical science and technology issues in more detail, they are quick and inexpensive to create and offer to visitors, they engage and nurture all the talents of the staff, and they attract return visitation.

When developing PCA’s it is important to use the unique talents, inherent to your own staff and to choose topics that are relevant to the context of your science centre in your society. If they are properly implemented, people-centred activities will add a new, dynamic dimension to your science centre and will increase visitation levels and the quality of visits substantially.’
